D3Two Roadmap
D3Two is a focused effort to bring back the original Devil’s Third online experience, preserving a multiplayer system that has effectively disappeared over time. Alongside restoration, the project also explores a spiritual successor built on the same design philosophy that made the original stand out.
This roadmap outlines where the project is heading. It is intentionally flexible—built to reflect real progress rather than fixed promises.
Phase 1 — Understanding the Original Systems (In Progress)
Before anything can be rebuilt, it has to be understood.
This phase focuses on studying how the original online systems functioned and how players actually interacted with them in practice. The goal is accuracy and preservation, not reinterpretation.
- Reconstructing online behavior and match flow
- Mapping server-client interactions
- Studying matchmaking and lobby structure
- Identifying key dependencies in gameplay networking
This is the foundation everything else is built on.
Phase 2 — Bringing the Servers Back Online
This is where restoration begins to take shape.
The goal of this phase is simple: restore playable online functionality.
- Rebuilding core server systems
- Session handling and matchmaking
- Basic multiplayer connectivity
- Restoring functional online play environments
At this stage, the focus is on getting players back into matches.
Phase 3 — Stabilization & Full Playability
Once the core systems are running, the focus shifts to making them reliable.
- Improving connection stability and responsiveness
- Refining matchmaking behavior
- Smoothing match flow and transitions
- Fixing edge cases and legacy inconsistencies
This is where the experience becomes something that feels consistent and playable again.
Phase 4 — Community Testing & Feedback
Bringing players into the process.
- Closed and staged testing environments
- Real-world performance validation
- Feedback-driven iteration
- Continuous improvements based on player behavior
This phase is where the system is stress-tested in the real world.
Phase 5 — Dangerous 32, The Spiritual Successor (Early Exploration)
Beyond restoration, D3Two is also a starting point for something new.
This phase explores what a modern successor could look like while staying true to the original game’s identity.
- Design exploration inspired by Devil’s Third
- Modern multiplayer architecture approaches
- Early system prototyping
- Long-term feasibility research
This is not a rewrite—it’s an evolution.
Built by a Small Team
D3Two is developed by a small, technically focused team with experience across commercial, creative, and public-sector work. The project is intentionally lean, with a focus on building things properly rather than quickly.
Where This Is Going
The goal is simple: restore a lost online experience, and explore what it could become next.
If you’re following along, you’re early.
